Stick #72

Waiting by the Stump for Hares

Fair

Poem

How long must the hare be awaited?

Foolish the man who guards a stump alone.

His helpless state invites my laughter -

Break from old ways, don't cling to what is gone.

兔兒久待意何如

堪嘆愚人獨守株

算是無能令我笑

不須守舊自拘拘

Interpretation

This sign refers to the foolish man who waited by a tree stump hoping another hare would crash into it. Despite long waiting with no results, he stubbornly stayed. Such inflexibility brings only mockery. If you draw this sign, know that progress requires adaptability - clinging to old methods brings no real harm but equally no benefit. An average outcome awaits.
